Escape From Hindmirror Village, An Outline (with possible themes in parentheses)
Ketzal and Sally follow Will and James into the woods
Kids wander and a bear awakens them
· The group finds shelter in a deep hole and is awakened by scratching.
· The noise is a bear cub whose mother attacks, fighting and injuring Will
· Will & Ketzal are injured, and the group members are fighting, especially about leadership.
· Ketzal sides with Will and go to get water, James disappears.
· Searching the woods for James, very hungry and disheartened,
· Will discovers a deer and prepares to kill it with a bow.
· He misses and they begin a short chase, losing the deer but discovering Jessa outside the home she shares with Sam,
· A very small cabin in the woods.
Meet Jessa and Sam, stay there
· James is already there +from Sam the children learn the soldiers aren’t really after ‘witches’...they are taking all children.
· The children are well cared for, but restless…
Try to find way back with help from another traveler
· Jessa decides to lead them back to the village, disguised as a deer +Sam contributes a map of the soldier camps along the river.
· The journey is light-hearted and easy with Jessa’s help and Sam’s map.
· Near the village, Sally is offended and pretends to disappear suddenly…the others shout and eventually find her, but Jessa has disappeared.
Town is destroyed, empty and burned
· The group stands in their former village…a smoldering ruin.
· Attracted by the shouting, soldiers appear and the group is quickly tied.
· The children are carried in a cart to an estuary where the river meets an ocean + they learn from other passengers that they will be loaded onto a ship bound for the slave trade in London.
