The Future of Reading - ‘Reading Workshop’ Approach Lets Students Pick the Books - Series - NYTimes.com
This article about what is called Independent Reading (in our class) appeared August 30th on the front page of the New York Times. Not everyone is in agreement about whether all seventh graders should read thing same things at the same time.
In our class, we will split the difference somewhat by reading four diverse novels together and also reading independently. Right now everyone is reading an autobiography or biography. Don't forget that the minimum reading expectation for our class is 30 minutes per day, five days per week.
